Job Summary:
This occupation involves the inspection, testing, and maintaining along with diagnoses of malfunctions and making the necessary repairs, performing the maintenance and repairs of heavy duty stationary and mobile equipment including but not limited to ready mix and quarry trucks, engines, bulldozers, front end loaders, skid loaders, forklifts, graders, compressors, crushers, batch plants, etc. Works under the general supervision of Leadsman, Supervisor, or Manager.
Minimum Qualifications:
1. CDL Class B license, valid DOT medical card and acceptable driving record 2. Mechanic certification from an accredited program (ASE diesel mechanic or equivalent) 3. 4+ years experience working on heavy equipment 4. Light welding experience 5. GED and/or equivalent combination of experience 6. Must become a member of the ILWU local 142 7. Ability to lift up to 50lbs
Duties and/or Responsibilities
1. General overhauls of plant equipment such as crushers, screens, feeders and batching plants; rebuilds equipment components and trouble shoots 2. Diagnoses malfunctions and based on findings repairs, adjusts, and maintains equipment 3. May perform the duties of other mechanics or welder 4. Uses hand and power tools common to his trade such as wrenches, hammers, hoists, drills, grinders, feeler gauges, indicators, component testing equipment, etc 5. Drives pickup and tests equipment as necessary 6. Performs established periodic P.M. checks as required 7. Services (cleans, oils, and lubes) equipment, plant compressor, pumps and meters 8. Follows established procedures in preparing necessary reports, requisitions, etc 9. Assists other tradesmen with repairs 10. Directs the work of trades helpers, other mechanics or welders, and other tradesmen where their assistance is needed 11. Performs night shift work and other related duties as required 12. Must have a working knowledge in repair, parts and operation of above equipment 13. Always work safely and take action to prevent any and all unsafe actions, processes, and behaviors 14. Performs other duties as assigned
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
1. Ability to safely use hand tools and equipment 2. Must be able to troubleshoot and problem solve 3. Independently working to assess and repair equipment appropriately
