Job Summary:
Entry level supervisory position who leads department operations and maintenance activities of the Oahu Concrete and Aggregates Division personnel engaged in harvesting, processing aggregates and ready-mix concrete. Reports to the Division’s Operations Manager or General Manager. Position includes personnel scheduling, performance management, safety and environmental oversight, administrative and budget control, and equipment preventative maintenance/repairs within the assigned department. With the Maintenance Department in support, resolves unusual or non-scheduled service requests, equipment breakdowns and schedule changes. Ensures quality aggregate and ready-mix materials. Responds effectively and courteously to customer service inquiries.
Minimum Qualifications:
• Possess good judgment and in good health - must pass the job description physical capacity functions test. • High School Diploma a must. • Valid State of Hawaii driver’s license, Class 3 or higher to be able to operate an automobile or pick-up truck. Acceptable driving record. • Two years of operations/maintenance experience. • 2 years in a supervisory role. • Able to work odd hours and some weekends. • Must be able to work as a member of a team. • Ensure company safety goals are achieved and be a role model of company safety policies, procedures, and behaviors. • Knowledge of basic computer skills to include MS Office programs. • Must submit and pass a drug screening, driver’s abstract and security background check. Obtain a TWIC security card.
Preferred Qualifications
• Associates degree or Technical certification equivalent in manufacturing, geology, engineering, construction and/or maintenance field. • Mechanical and/or electrical skills preferred. • 5 years related supervisory and maintenance knowledge. • Lean Six Sigma “Green Belt” Certification • Experience in aggregate and/or ready-mix production management positions. • Experience in aggregate and/or ready-mix quality control.

*Will be assigned to one of three departments within the Division – one of the departments listed below with a *. Intent is become an “expert” in that department then cross train into other departments with the goal of becoming a Grade 19 Operations Superintendent. • *QUARRY DEPT.: Supervise the daily operation and Level 1 (operator) maintenance at the Quarry/Mine to support internal and external customer requirement. Includes overseeing quarry planning, harvesting/blasting, and feeding quality aggregates to the processing plant “Mill” that meet established Key Performance Indicators. Ensures the right machines and equipment are used to lead to higher productivity and cost savings while adhering to safety regulations and standards. Oversees managing the mine, scheduling “heavy” repairs and maintenance with the maintenance department, “general” plant repairs and predictive maintenance to ensure efficient operation. Ensures materials meet quality standards. Ensures Department employees are task trained. Ensures MSHA, EPA, State and Company safety/environmental rules and procedures are followed. • *AGGREGATE PROCESSING “MILL” DEPT. (PRIMARY “JAW” THROUGH CDE): Supervise the daily operation and maintenance of aggregate crushing, screening, and washing processing from the primary through the finish plant to support internal and external customer requirements. Includes overseeing processing quality aggregates that meet established Key Performance Indicators. Ensures the right machines and equipment are used to lead to higher productivity and cost savings while adhering to safety regulations and standards. Oversees plant moves, scheduling “heavy” repairs and unplanned maintenance with the maintenance department, “general” plant repairs and predictive maintenance to ensure efficient operation. Ensures Department employees are task trained. Ensures materials meet quality standards. Ensures MSHA, EPA, State and Company safety/environmental rules and procedures are followed. • *READY-MIX CONCRETE DEPT.: Supervise the daily operation of the Ready-Mix Department to ensure ready-mix customers and provided quality, on-time concrete products that meet establish Key Performance Indicators. Ensures concrete meets quality standards. Oversees plant moves, scheduling “heavy” repairs and maintenance with the maintenance department, “general” plant repairs and maintenance (e.g. drum cleaning) to ensure efficient operation. Additionally, coordinates with the Sales and Quality Control to ensure customer expectations and quality materials are met. Ensures Department employees are task trained. Ensures OSHA, EPA, State and Company safety/environmental rules and procedures are followed. General Duties and Responsibilities for all Operations Supervisors: • Promotes Company Purpose, Mission, and Vision. • Lives Company Values – Trust, Aloha, Excellence and Adaptability. • Ensures Department is efficient and profitable. • Performs site inspections to identify and correct any unsafe conditions. Ensures good housekeeping BMPs are followed. • Enforce Federal, State and Company rules, policies and regulations and maintains a clean and safe work area. • Coordinates parts orders, vendor, and contractor services with the maintenance department. • Coordinates with other departments to ensure efficient and quality of materials. • Leads all aspects of department union workforce contractual obligations to include imposing discipline and managing grievances. • Assists Operations and General Managers in negotiating and executing bargaining unit contract. • Investigates safety related incidents. • Coach, mentor and train department employees to include new equipment, techniques, technologies, and methods. • Ensures Mobile Equipment Operators are Task Trained and Documented. • Troubleshoot and solve problems (material distribution, equipment operation/repair, etc.). Monitor and discuss distribution problems and maintenance schedules with co-workers and managers/supervisors. • Meet all scheduled jobs in a timely and efficient manner while working with employees, contractors, and inspectors to ensure safety, quality and production optimization. • Complete administrative functions, to include but not limited to timecards, work schedules, time off requests and return to work forms. • Maintains positive customer relations & act courteous/respectful of others. • Work collaboratively with superiors, peers, and employees alike. • Executes Kina Ole (Lean Six Sigma Projects). • Able to travel by air to Neighbor Islands for company business. Able to work a flexible schedule according to operational requirements. • Able to meet tight project deadlines while maintaining quality results. • Must be able to work effectively on odd shifts with minimal supervision. Must be available and willing to fill in extended hours on short notice as needed. • Always works safely and takes action to prevent any and all unsafe actions, processes, and behaviors. • Ensures company safety and environmental standards are achieved and be a role model of company safety and environmental policies, procedures, and behaviors. • Must be available for temporary transfer to other departments to do qualified work. Must be able to assist with other tasks as required. • Able to work a flexible schedule, to include holidays and weekends, according to operational requirements. • Timely and regular attendance is required. • Performs other assigned tasks.

Use of IT products to manage deadlines, communicate with others, and develop spreadsheets (e.g., EXCEL). • Aggregates (Quarry and Processing): ? Obtain the required Crusher Operator II, Loader Operator, Haul Truck, and other critical equipment qualifications within their specific department. ? 30 CFR MSHA Compliance Proficient. Mine Safety and Health Law Institute trained (MSHA Part 46 Competent). ? New Miner Training Completed. ? Skilled in overseeing explosive handling and detonation for ground loosening in accordance with Federal and State laws - e.g., attend Quarry Academy or equivalent blasting courses for Quarry Department. ? Able to analyze and interpret geological data to ensure conformance to the mine plan for Quarry Department. ? Environmental compliant trained. ? Smoke School Trained – EPA Visual Emissions Certification. • Ready-Mix Skills: ? NRMCA Plant Manager Certified. ? Dispatcher and Batch Plant Operator Qualified. ? NRMCA Think First Concrete Safety Course Completion. ? NRMCA Dispatcher Training Course Completion. ? *One optional NRMCA professional certification course completion. ? Must be able to read and comprehend equipment and operations manuals. • Able to work in varying environments, from air-conditioned office to dusty, noisy field conditions. • Be physically able to climb stairs and ladders or other physically demanding tasks necessary in performing field inspections up to 80ft high. • Must possess valid Hawaii State Driver’s License with clean driver’s abstract. • Able to work a flexible schedule, to include holidays and weekends, according to operational requirements. • Able to lift and carrying heavy items weighing 60 pounds. • Must be able to work in a non-smoking workplace.
