Mine/Civil Engineering Technician

Job Summary:
Responsible for performing technical duties in the areas of surveying and mapping in support of operations managers, mining engineers and Geographic Information System personnel.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Assists engineers and technical services teams in the creation of supporting documents such as property boundary plans, topographic maps, mine plans, and volumetric measurements.
2. Performs field-based tasks in surface mine environments for collecting topographic data utilizing GPS data collectors and UAS aircraft.
3. Processes surveying data for use in CAD software to generate TIN models.
4. Assists GIS personnel with entering and maintaining geospatial data in the enterprise GIS system.
5. Contribute to technical reports prepared by mining engineers summarizing mining facilities
6. Performs other tasks and special projects as assigned.

EDUCATION AND/OR WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
• Possess a working knowledge of drafting and mapping concepts acquired through the completion of a two-year degree in engineering technology or equivalent related work experience, including the education and experience in the use of drafting and mapping software.

KEY SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES
• Ability to create topographic maps and site plans by utilizing TIN models to produce surfaces and volumetric calculations, generate profile and cross section drawings.
• Ability to create accurate boundary maps using survey data including legal descriptions, PLSS and field collected data.
• Ability to create 3D CAD models for production facilities and As-Built plans.
• Ability to obtain an FAA Part 107 Certificate for commercial operation of UAS devices.
• Understanding of construction material specifications and ASTM testing procedures.
• Proficient knowledge and skills in the use of Microsoft Office Suite applications.

Minimum Qualifications:
• Must be a team player with strong interpersonal skills, positive attitude, strong work ethic, flexibility, and willingness to take personal ownership of projects and see them through to completion.
• Must be self-motivated, detail-oriented and able to handle multiple priorities and meet deadlines effectively without close supervision.
• Position requires moderate level of overnight travel (33%+) throughout region's footprint.
• Required to maintain a valid driver’s license.
• Ability to physically negotiate terrain in a surface mining environment in variety of weather conditions.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
• Associate’s degree in Civil Engineering Technology or B.S. degree in Mining Engineering
• Experience using AutoCAD Civil 3D, Trimble GPS and ESRI ArcGIS applications
• Industry related CAD and GIS technical experience with drafting, mapping, and surveying practices.
