Job Summary:
This position is responsible for assisting the Safety Manager in developing, coordinating and documenting the company safety programs to reduce or eliminate occupational injuries, illnesses and financial losses at regional, company or operational levels. DUTIES AND/OR RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Collects accident information and reviews incident investigations. 2. Manages tracking software, where applicable, for accurate and timely safety data input and management. 3. Processes invoices for vendor and claimant payment including OSHA-MSHA citations. 4. Generates monthly claims reports. 5. Analyzes loss runs, safety records and injury reports for trends and patterns. 6. Looks for ways to reduce accidents, improve safety, and improve claim processing. 7. Schedules and monitors random and DOT drug screens and physicals. 8. Coordinate and administer DOT regulations in conjunction with Human Resources and Operations (where applicable). 9. Evaluates technical and scientific publications concerned with safety management and participates in activities of related organizations to update knowledge of safety program development. 10. Coordinates communications between shops, sites, and safety office. 11. Investigates motor vehicle citations and motor vehicle accidents. 12. Assists with accident scene investigations and clean up. 13. Runs employee MVR. 14. Ensures appropriate regulatory files and reports are submitted to the proper agency on a timely basis. 15. Coordinates safety and training programs as required. 16. Ensure MSHA, OSHA, DOT regulatory compliance. 17. May perform field audits and safety related reviews. 18. Works closely with field safety personnel. 19. Actively participates in claims meetings. 20. Files records and other documentation. 21. Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
1. High school diploma or GED equivalent. 2. Minimum 5 years' experience in management of health and safety programs for industry, a regulatory government agency or similar organization or significant operational experience with strong safety focus/record. 3. Must possess a valid state driver's license and have an acceptable driving record. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: 1. Post secondary education or BA/BS degree in construction, business or related field (or equivalent experience). 2. Strong working knowledge of health and safety regulations related to construction materials industry. 3. General knowledge of insurance and financial matters related to health and safety programs. 4. Working knowledge of computer applications such as word processing, spreadsheet or presentation software. 5. Working knowledge of construction materials equipment and operations. 6. Certified trainer or significant experience in training. 7. Occasional travel outside of the Treasure Valley is necessary for training and remote projects. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: 1. Excellent interpersonal skills, both oral and written. 2. Strong computer skills. 3. Strong research and analytical skills. 4. Knowledge of applicable government regulations and the ability to interpret and apply appropriately. 5. A self-starter who can work independently. 6. Ability to manage multiple tasks and communicate with multiple parties simultaneously. 7. Organized and possess an attention to detail. 8. Demonstrates excellent problem-solving skills. 9. MSHA/OSHA/DOT audits. 10. Strong training skills.
