Knife River has an excellent opportunity for a customer-focused bilingual Ready Mix Dispatcher with excellent phone and computer skills to efficiently manage the daily customer service and dispatch functions for the Ready Mix Plants. The focus in this role is to exceed the customer and company requirements for Customer Service, Quality, and Efficiency by taking all phone calls for concrete orders and coordinating the daily delivery of concrete in support of field operations in a safe and timely manner to meet targeted service level and cost goals.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen and physical. - Must meet Knife River-South employment standards with regards to background/MVR checks. - Must be able to work overtime and be flexible with hours (daytime/nighttime). - Must have a “safety first” attitude. Strict adherence to safety requirements and procedures is required. - GED or high school diploma. Bachelor’s degree is preferred. - 3 to 5 years prior experience working in customer service, dispatch, production, equipment, maintenance and/or quality control is preferred. - Ready Mix dispatch experience highly desirable and preferred. - Must be able to work a flexible schedule with long hours, occasionally requiring early morning or late night work and some Saturdays. - BILINGUAL SPANISH/ENGLISH STRONGLY PREFERRED.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Ability to present facts and recommendations effectively in oral and written form. - Strong interpersonal and organizational skills. - Good communication and motivational skills. - Must be able to work well under pressure. - Experience using Command software is preferred. - Good computer/data entry skills. - Microsoft Word and Excel applications experience and use. - Answers phone to take/alter customer's order and complete all required information about the customer and the job owner and location. - Quotes prices receive orders for Ready Mix concrete. - Ensure the customer understands all relevant company policies. - Properly file the order and special instructions and give adequate notice to ensure required materials are available. - Confers with plant production yard personnel to establish delivery schedules according to factors, like truck capacities, distances to delivery site and unloading time. - Promote the most advantageous job start times to maintain a "flat" truck demand graph in order to minimize the trucks and drivers required. - Ask the customer for information regarding upcoming orders so there are no short-notice surprises. - Computes amount of water to be added to each mix of concrete, using moisture meter, to define moisture content of sand following moisture mix table. - Records quantity of sand, cement, gravel, and water required for each mix on loading ticket for use by Ready Mix Plant Manager.
Duties and/or Responsibilities:
- Maintain contact with Sales, Ready Mix Plant Manger, and/or drivers to expedite deliveries. - Communicate effectively (verbal, listening, written) and work with difficult people under high stress situations . Self-motivated, team-player with good interpersonal skills; ability to maintain positive customer relations and act courteous/respectful of others at all times. - Troubleshoot and problem solve situations/problems (material quality, equipment operation/repair, etc.). - Monitor and discuss production problems with Dispatch Manager. - Ensure OSHA, EPA, DNR, safety and environmental regulation compliance. - Timely and regular attendance is essential. - Performs other duties as assigned.
