Essential job functions:
• Manage assigned administrative, accounting & payroll staff. Conduct performance evaluations and wage reviews. Recommend training and development activities for assigned staff.
• Assure that accounting records are prepared and maintained in accordance with the company’s accounting policies, chart of accounts and related accounting principles and practices, and that subordinate ledgers reconcile with the general ledger.
• Duties include but are not limited to bank reconciliations, journal entries, month-end accruals, review/approval of weekly payroll and audit logs, and processing monthly credit card expense reports.
• Assist with accounts payable as needed.
• Assist in implementing new accounting applications and processes.
• Collaborate with management to develop schedules, procedures, and systems to enable the timely and informative accumulation, adjustment, and reporting of financial data.
• Coordinate the accounting & payroll activities of other project offices as necessary.
• Act as liaison with project, company, and corporate management to ensure all accounting related activities support the construction schedule.
• Coordinate with external auditors in annual and special audit functions.
• Coordinate with other corporate financial and accounting management staff to assure smooth operations between the financial functions.
• Responsible for submitting required reports to corporate, Federal, State, and local entities.
• Stay abreast of Federal, State, local and corporate reporting changes.
• Performs special projects or other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
-Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen and physical.
-Must meet Knife River-South employment standards with regards to background/MVR checks.
-Must be able to work overtime and be flexible with hours (daytime/nighttime).
-Must have a “safety first” attitude. Strict adherence to safety requirements and procedures is required.

• Educational and/or experience requirements include: Four-year accounting degree plus minimum three years accounting experience or equivalent combinations of training and experience. Knowledge of general accounting, auditing, payroll, and invoicing required.

KEY SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES
• Requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to prioritize and complete multiple projects in a timely manner.
• Advanced knowledge and skills in the use of various Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
• Requires the ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with internal and external customers.
• Good punctuation, spelling, and grammar skills are essential.
• Must maintain confidentiality and contribute to a team-oriented work environment.
