The Manager – Occupational Health & Hygiene (OHH) is responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing the comprehensive health and hygiene program across all KNF operating regions. This role focuses on the collection and administration of industrial hygiene data, as well as the investigation and correction of over standard exposures. The OHH manager will conduct and oversee the collection of sampling related to dust, noise, ergonomics, vibration, chemical exposure, respiratory protection, biological monitoring, and various other health related data collection and the general maintenance of applicable sampling equipment. The incumbent will also serve as the technical expert for all industrial hygiene matters across KNF and provide guidance to company safety and operations team members to support a safer and healthier work environment. This position will be located in the Western US at/near a Knife River location. Expect a hybrid schedule with travel required.
Minimum Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in occupational health, industrial hygiene, life science, public health, or other similar field. Equivalent and demonstrated experience will also be considered. • Demonstrated proficiency in the creation and implementation and/or management of a large-scale enterprise occupational health system • Excellent understanding of the sampling process, equipment, and occupational exposure limits (ACGIH, OSHA, MSHA) • Superior communication and influencing skills to build strong communication networks and relationships with internal customers • Ability to work both independently and interdependently across simultaneous projects or tasks with the ability to prioritize and execute • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to evaluate results and manage exposure investigations with corresponding corrective actions • Prior experience operating in a digital/cloud based EHS software environment • Liaise and coordinate with sample analysis laboratories, external service providers, and equipment manufacturers • Ability to travel, up to 50% • Perform other duties as required or assigned
Preferred Qualifications
• Prior experience in mining, construction, heavy civil, or manufacturing industries • Applicable certification or accreditation pertaining to occupational health and hygiene, CIH or similar • Prior experience with DOT drug and alcohol testing programs and sample collection • Prior experience leading and mentoring direct reports • Past experience working within an enterprise Safety Management System • Understanding and/or former experience evaluating physical demands and ergonomics of workplace tasks • Past experience managing budgets and capital projects
Duties and/or Responsibilities:
• Manage the consolidated KNF database for occupational health sampling results • Creation of annual sampling plans and continued monitoring of plans to ensure compliance • Instructing KNF team members on OHH sampling requirements, including creating and instructing training courses and internal certification testing • Conduct field sampling independently or as part of a sampling team • Manage the KNF respiratory protection program including medical evaluation and fit testing records • Analyze OHH sampling and observation results to determine actionable courses to mitigate team member exposure • Oversee investigations related to elevated exposure results, including resampling an analysis of control measures • Conduct audits of workplaces to proactively identify hazards and risks related to occupational health & hygiene • Routinely communicate with regional safety and operations leaders to information them of sample results and other pertinent OHH information

• Ability to facilitate teamwork, collaboration, and interaction with individuals and groups including KNF team members and business partners • Demonstrated leadership and coaching skills with the capacity to influence change • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to make sound decisions based on data and risk profiles • Excellent interpersonal skills, both oral and written, charismatic and engaging • Sound problem solving and problem analysis skills • Proficient experience with computer programs including MS Office suite, Visio, Adobe Acrobat, MS Teams, etc. • Highly effective organizational skills • Self-motivated and self-starter able to work independently as necessary while also able to collaborate effectively in a team environment • Ability to work a flexible schedule, at times, to meet needs of the role
