This role will lead the development and implementation of long-term sustainability strategies across the company and chair the Knife River Sustainability Committee. Coordinate initiatives across Knife River operations in support of sustainability goals. Lead the development of Knife River’s annual Sustainability report and be the primary interface with ESG focused proxy advisors. LOCATION: Bismarck, ND or in a geographic location near a Knife River location.
Minimum Qualifications:
1. Bachelor’s degree in human resources, Business, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field. 2. Ten or more years of experience managing teams or projects. 3. Excellent communication abilities focusing on large and small groups of employees, executives, and industry associations. 4. Excellent facilitation skills. 5. Experience in gathering and analyzing financial and operational data.
Preferred Requirements:
1. Ten or more years experience in the construction materials and construction services industry. 2. Knowledge of sustainable construction practices and materials. 3. Knowledgeable in sustainability reporting frameworks (e.g., SASB, TCFD). 4. Experience working with customers and vendors to promote sustainability strategies. 5. Understanding of proxy advisor’s ESG framework
Duties and/or Responsibilities:
1. Lead the Knife River executive team in development of sustainability strategies and governance. 2. Lead the Knife River Sustainability Committee to define initiatives across the company. 3. Provide updates to management and the Board of Directors on sustainability initiatives. 4. Collaborate with regional management, regional sustainability engineers, and regional HR managers to integrate sustainable practices into operations. 5. Coordinate communications between Knife River regions to share best practices and lessons learned regarding sustainability efforts. 6. Assist Knife River operations in leveraging the company’s sustainability efforts in commercial sales opportunities. 7. Lead the development of the Knife River Sustainability report. 8. Lead response to proxy advisor and other ESG focused investor’s questions 9. Promote employee awareness and engagement in sustainability initiatives. 10. Perform financial analysis of renewable energy projects, carbon reduction projects or other capital projects that support sustainability initiatives. 11. Frequent travel may be required. 12. Perform other duties as assigned.
